manual transmission on a mercedes 500e w124?
does anybody know of a conversion kit or a person who has converted a 500e to manual?
Such a cool idea.
Definitly doable with some imagination but there is no kit as there was never a 500e with manual transmission in the euro market (post above is an untrue speculation). Actually there are no V8 Mercedes with manual transmissions at all(even in europe). Manual Benzs are limited to 4,6 cyl as well as diesel models.
Thinking about this project, I would look into a 6speed with slave cylinders and speedo switch from a BMW 540 (Getrag or ZF) with a pedal cluster with brake, clutch switches (adapt to factory wire harness for cruise control and brake lights) from a euro 300E W124.
Of course the hardest job would be to physically get the trans to fit. Lengthen/shorten the bellhousing as well as an adapter to mount trans to the block. Custom driveshaft too I'm sure.
